New program allows property tax deferment for Vancouver home owners with children

A new program will make it possible for any Vancouver homeowner that supports at least one child under the age of 18 and has at least 15 percent equity in their home to defer their property taxes.  This was an option previously available to only people over 55 or that were in financial hardship.

The owner must have lived in the province for at least one year before applying and must have fire insurance on the home. Simple interest is at the bank prime rate is charged on the deferred taxes.
