BC building permits on rise
May 2009 saw a 36% increase in building permits in south western BC, a substantial increase that beat all expectations from analysts and economists. Though it is too early to be sure it may well mean that the construction industry has already bottomed and is now possibly already rebounding. Statisitics Canada revealed Tuesday the value of building permits issued nationally in May surpassed the $5-billion mark for the first time since last October. It is hoped by many in the construction industry that increased building activity in 2009 will set the stage for a full recovery by 2010.
